The Area
History
The Greenlandic Trade Square was built in 1735 when merchant and ship owner, Andreas Bjørn acquired the right to open the harbour from Christianshavn to Christiansholm (Paper Island). For more than 200 years, the area served as a focal point for trade between the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland and Greenland. The square was also an area for shipbuilding, workshops, warehouses and boiling houses. Here, dried fish, salted herring, whale and skin were loaded and stored before the goods were sold to the European market. In 2003, The North Atlantic House opened official offices for the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland, as well as the restaurant Noma in the large warehouse that was built in 1761. Today, the Greenlandic Trade Square is owned by the Agency for Culture and Palaces and is now connected to Nyhavn via Inderhavnsbroen.

Quality & Organic foods
At Broens Gadekøkken, the priority is on high quality products and a great taste experience. It is important to be able to spoil guests with tasteful organic and high quality products. At the four different bars, we serve a selection of organic beers, wines and juices. On top of that, many of the food stalls have been given the Organic Cuisine Label and it is an ambition that all food stalls are awarded this.

During the winter season, Broens is transformed to one large skating rink. Lace up and get ready for winter fun in the heart of Copenhagen. Skaters on all levels can glide elegantly across the ice. Throughout the season, we host all types of events from choir singing and children’s disco to ice skating lessons and bingo.
